Summer 2013

SUMMER PAINTINGS, 2013 - The season of summer is always too short for me...

Ian At The Lake (2013)
40" x 30"
Ah yes, the Viking warrior (aka my nephew Ian, at about 13 ) gestures as the ancient Sunfish sailboat pulls into shore.
My brother John at the rudder.  Alex is so young that his torso and legs haven't grown together yet....

AQUATIC BABEHOOD
2013
(30" x 30")
I painted this to be the cover for my record of songs on an CD (released this July 2013- lynbertles.com)
Basically, it's me (bien sur!) in the pond at my mom's property in Vermont.  There really is a blow-up raft there, and many happy hours have been lolled in it.
A wish fulfillment picture.

In The Pool
2013
(30" x 40")
.I do have a pool fetish, but David Hockney's already been there, so I have to keep it in check....

In The Bathtub
2013
(2013,  30" x 30")
This is an after-image painting. Sort of. What I see when I close my eyes as  I'm lying in the bath.

WATER Paintings

Beach Day

(40"x 30")

Floater

(54" x 54")
This is what I see when I am looking underwater, swimming with goggles on.
I've had this floater as long as I can remember.  I think it looks a little bit like Italy.

The Pacific Looking Tropical

(36" x 24")
Driving down towards San Diego, there's a place on the 5 freeway where the ocean looks
like the Caribbean.

The Backstroke

(circa 2009, 36" x 24")
What else to say about all these water-related pictures?  That I'm a Pisces?  That I love to swim? ... I had such a pool obsession that I used to jump into almost any pool, spring, summer, fall.

VERMONT, FAMILY, HUDSON RIVER

Vermont Sunrise From the Deck

(40" x 32")
Since I'm a nightowl, I'm more of a sunset person, but when you have to get up at dawn to use the bathroom, there's your chance...

Traffic Light, Wilmington, Vermont

(30" x 24")
Sometimes the traffic light seems to take forever.
It's worth it.
(p.s. I gave town of Wilmington a giclée copy of this, and it's hanging in the Town Offices
next to the elevator.  Also, the blue building was formerly a bank, and the weird square on the front
was the alarm box.  It burned down a few years ago.)

The White Square Is The River2009
36" x 48"

Linda and Mark by the pond

(32" x 21")
I made an attachment with a 3D net-and-wire "arm" embracing them.
No one liked the arm but me.
Alonso is working on his ball to the right.

Hastings River Walk (with my brothers and Carina)

(30" x 40")
You can sort of see where the traintracks are below,  looking down from Rowley's trail.

A link to a Rowley's Trail article...

Scary Happy House, Hastings-on-Hudson
about 18"x 27"?
There's a cool little patio below the house, and from this view it looks kind of creepy to me,
although usually it's pretty benign....

SOME FORAYS from around 2009 or so

I Close My Eyes After the Treadmill
This is an after-image painting.
(40" x 30")

Exactly what did you mean by that?
(Pigeon on the skylight)
(36" x 24")

Vermont as a Suitcase
Okay, I probably went a little too devious here.
It's a sideways map shape of the state of Vermont with little icons of barns, silos, churches and barns on it.  Wanted it to look like Vuitton luggage.
(30" x 24")

LAKE WHITINGHAM, VERMONT paintings of yore...

Lake Whitingham II (circa 2005, 48" x 30")
with my brothers and sister-in-law Carina.
Here is a link to this southern Vermont town's website...Vermont rocks!

Lake I (with my brother John, invisible under the rigging that he was trying to set up...)
(circa 1999, 40" x 30")
Lake Whitingham, near Wilmington Vermont.  When I was 10, my parents rented a house for a month in nearby Jacksonville for two summers in a row.  We would go to the lake and picnic and swim (and sometimes canoe) for hours.  So started my lake obsession.

Lake Whitingham III (with Alex and a large black dog)
(probably started about 2001, finished(?) 2012,
20" x 16")
